Scheduled to join the Bulldogs next fall will be Tara Gibby of Paris Jr. College, Jennifer Naramore of the University of Arkansas-Ft. Smith, Emily Walter of Azle (Texas) High School, Kayla Bader of Blue Valley West (Kansas) High School, Kansas, Breawn Waynes of Mesquite (Texas) High School, and Krishna Henderson of Pampa (Texas) High School. Marshall University--Marshall University volleyball head coach Mitch Jacobs recently announced the addition of LaPorte, Ind. native, Jessica Dhoore to the Thundering Herd for the 2008 season. The 5-foot-4-inch senior attends LaPorte High School and has been playing volleyball since middle school. Ohio--The Ohio volleyball team wrapped up its spring schedule Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 performance at the University of Cincinnati spring volleyball tournament. Ohio swept Youngstown State (2-0) and Wright State (2-0) to begin the day, before falling to Maryland (0-2). The Bobcats bounced back in their final match of the day, sweeping Xavier (2-0) to post three wins on the day. Club Volleyball--Salem Volleyball Club's top U16 team has qualified for the U.S. Junior Olympic Championships, which is hosted by USA Volleyball. The team, Salem 16 Black, finished fifth out of 88 teams competing in the Regional Power League. The U.S. Championships are set for Dallas, Tex. July 1-4. Area schools are repesented on the team. McNary's Laura Berg and Erica Cotton, Sprague's Alexa Brown, Kaleigh Nelson and Emily Oslie, Silverton's Hilary Butsch and Hannah Deede and West Salem's Meredith Coba and Sydney Smith are members of the team. Eastern Utah--Clearfield multi-sport athlete Alexis Adams signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for CEU next year. She chose CEU over two junior college offers because of the school's cosmetology program. Adams was an all-state selection in volleyball. Xavier--Head volleyball coach Floyd Deaton has announced the addition of Christy Utnage, 24, to fill the open position on his staff. Marquette--Head coach Pati Rolf announced Thursday that Amy Deelo has committed to continue her education and play volleyball at Marquette University. Deelo joins Laira Akin, Ciara Jones, Holly Mertens and Tiara Russell as members of the Golden Eagles' 2008 incoming class. Upper Iowa--Peacock Head Volleyball Coach Shari Robertson announced today that Sara Vance of Tampa, Florida and Kirsten Zeise of Lakeville, Minnesota have signed a National Letter of Intent to continue their academic and volleyball careers at Upper Iowa University. Fort Hayes State--Fort Hays State volleyball coach Steve Smith announced Tuesday that he has signed six players for the upcoming season. The class includes Lilian Rezende, who was a two-time NJCAA Division II All-American at Cowley County Community College. The 6-foot-1 outside hitter is a native of Franca, Brazil. The other five players are high school recruits - Lindsey Larson, a setter from Maize; Tracie Hileman, an outside hitter from Tonganoxie; Trisha Tholen, an outside hitter from Grinnell; Rebecca Mausbach, a middle hitter from Humphrey, Neb.; and Morgan Witzel, a 5-9 outside hitter from Burlington, Colo. Club Volleyball--North Florida Volleyball Academy 17 Elite won the Junior Volleyball Directors Association Showcase this past weekend. They won the 17 Division with a record of 12-1. The North Florida Volleyball Academy recently qualified for the Junior Olympics this summer in Dallas. The team members are Marcella Desloge (Leon), Danielle Harrison (Florida High), Sarah Bishop Hyde [Maclay), Alex Johnson (Leon), Caldwell Nystrom (Leon) Molly Pearce (Leon), Bridget Swingle (Leon), Taylor Vaughn (Leon), Callie Watkins (Leon), Lexi Weldon (Leon), Megan Wilmot (Leon). Rhode Island--Lutheran junior setter Annie Nelson has made her verbal commitment to play Division I volleyball for University of Rhode Island. A member of Sky High Volleyball Club in Crystal Lake, Nelson is an all-conference setter who started for Lutheran as a freshman. Rhode Island competes in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Buffalo--Bethany Prather signed her Division I letter of intent Tuesday to play volleyball for University of Buffalo next year. A three-year varsity player, Prather earned all-conference honors for the Bucs as a sophomore and junior before missing her senior season with an injury. An outside hitter, Prather had 91 NIC-9 kills her junior season. Hernandez, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, led North to a 25-5 record and the CIF Division II final. She had 339 kills and 24 blocks to earn Co-Division II Player of the Year and Daily Breeze All-Area honors. She also plays on the Mizuno Long Beach Volleyball Club. Pacific--The women's volleyball team had a strong showing at the Sacramento State spring tournament on Saturday, winning six of eight games, beating UC Davis, Santa Clara and USF, and losing to Cal. Two of Pacific's top players, Kara Uhl and Svenja Engelhardt, were in Huntington Beach playing in the first Big West Beach Tournament. They lost in the title game to the UC Irvine duo of Kari Pestolesi and Devon Sutherland. Oregon State--Woodinville (WA) senior libero Betsy Devich will play volleyball next season for Oregon State. She set several school records last season on her way to KingCo 4A Player of the Year and all-state recognition. She was vital to the school’s recruiting of international players. NAU cut its volleyball program in March.
Yong (James) Li is entering his fourth year as assistant coach for the U.S. women’s national team. He has helped the team to a 68-38 record in his first three years with the program. A native of China, Li served as an assistant coach on China’s national women’s volleyball team from 1991-98. He assisted the Chinese to a silver medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. He joined the U.S. team in 2005.
Ryan Platt is wrapping up his second year as the assistant coach to Jerry Wagner at Montana. Platt has been a head coach at the NAIA level. He coached Eastern Oregon for three years and was an interim head coach for Lewis & Clark, where he served as an assistant coach.
David Gantt is a former head coach at both Oregon State and Montana State. He spent two years at Oregon State in 1991 and 1992 and compiled just a 29-36 record. He has also coached at Montana State-Northern, where he was the athletic director from 2005-2006.
Steven Dallman is currently the head coach at NAIA University of Virginia-Wise. He is the former head volleyball coach at NCAA Division I University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Austin Dyer is the assistant volleyball coach at the University of Saskatchewan-Saskatoon.
Brandon Reeves is a graduate assistant volleyball coach at Tennessee State.
Kristen Kolter is a graduate assistant volleyball coach at Union University in Jackson Tenn. Club Volleyball--The VBL Diggers 13-White Regional Volleyball Team placed first in the Cayenne Volleyball Tournament at Nicholls State University in Thibodeaux, La., April 19. The team played four matches to win the tournament. Club Volleyball--The Munciana Cougars 15-2 team won the JVDA Indy Juniors Volleyball Classic. The team was 7-0 in the tournament. Team members are Zoe Bilello, Jasmine Childress, Jessica Shaw, Emily Gilland, Abbey Spurlock, Courtney Roach, Hannah Clemmons, Tanna Jones, Shayna Landis and Sierra Boykin. Coaches are Thanh Harnish and Malorie Smith. Club Volleyball--The Wave Volleyball Club's 14-1 Shock Wave won the North Central Indiana Power League's 16s championship on Sunday at Oak Hill High School. The team was 6-0. Team members are Logan Millspaugh, Alexa Antrim, Marisa Mathews, Emily Armantrout and Lindsay Niccum from Wes-Del; Nikki Box and Sarah Dale from Northside; Kelsey Lawson form Wapahani; Kearston Phelps from Yorktown; Jenna Roysden from Delta; and Krissy Whiteley from Eastbrook. Chuck Wallen is the head coach and Steve Whiteley is the assistant coach. The runner-up was Wave's 15-1 Heat Wave, which went 4-1.
New Hampshire--The volleyball team on Saturday honored Holly Young, the Wildcat who died in January after a three-year battle with Ewing's Sarcoma. The program retired her uniform number (No. 4), planted a tree in the athletic department's Memory Walk outside the Field House, participated in the Relay 4 Life at the school and named its Most Valuable Player award after her. Jessica Compton earned Holly Young Most Valuable Player honors for the season. Setter Kate Uitti, who will be a junior in the fall, was named captain of next season's team. Ohio State Men--Ohio State junior Robbie Klein (Moeller) was named first-team All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association. Klein was second in the conference with 3.96 kills per game in conference play and third with 4.54 points per game.
Penn State Men--Penn State junior Max Holt (Purcell Marian) was named first-team All-EIVA for the third consecutive year. Holt leads the country with a .567 hitting percentage and averages 3.19 kills per game. Rocky Mountain College--Alexa Audet, a 5-foot-8 setter/outside hitter from Broadwater High School in Townsend, has signed a letter of intent to join the women's volleyball team at Rocky. The tournament will be next Saturday at Ironwood. I played in the event last year and can tell you it's an excellent tournament that is well-run for a very deserving cause. And with everything Mary Wise has done for this community, she deserves your support.
George Washington University--GWU volleyball coach Jojit Coronel announced Jenny O'Brien has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Colonials beginning in 2008. She joins two other signees to make up the Colonials' 2008 recruiting class.
Lipscomb University--Lipscomb University volleyball coach Brandon Rosenthal has announced the addition of three incoming freshmen for his 2008 team. Joining the Lady Bisons, the 2007 Atlantic Sun Tournament Champion, are outside hitter Bobbi Jo Bayer from Albia, Iowa; setter Jennifer Brekke from Friendswood, Texas; and middle Katherine Rose from Lexington, Ky.

Ohio--Ohio Head Volleyball Coach Ryan Theis has named Kyle Weindel assistant coach, making him the first member of Theis' staff at Ohio. Chico State Men's Club--The Chico State men's volleyball team won the National Intramural-Recreation Sports Association National Club Volleyball Championship in Dallas over the weekend. Chico State defeated Loyola-Chicago 2-1 in the Division I-AA finals after beating Purdue 2-1 in the semifinals and Utah State 2-0 in the quarterfinals. The three-day tournament began with pool play on Thursday and overall the Wildcats were 7-1 in the 36-team field, dropping only their first match to Illinois State on Thursday. Montana--Karyn Mockel, a senior at Mead High School in Spokane, has committed to play volleyball at the University of Montana beginning this fall. Mockel, a 5-foot-11 setter, is a high school teammate of Emma Olgard, who signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Grizzlies last November. Mockel and Olgard led MHS to a 101-3 record over the last three seasons and helped the Panthers win the last three Washington Class 4A state championships.
